JOIN OUR TEAM

We hire in the fall and spring every year for positions across our organization. The Caravel is broken into two units: the writing staff and the executive staff. The writing staff itself is split into the Editorial Staff and Digital Operations staff. See below for brief descriptions.

WRITING STAFF

  • Editorial Staff: produces full-length journalism for the Caravel for publication on our website, thecaravelgu.com, and in our print editions, published three times per semester. Members of the editorial staff join regional teams representing the United States, Western Europe & Canada, Latin America & the Caribbean, Eastern Europe & Russia, the Middle East & Central Asia, Africa, or the Indo-Asia-Pacific or the Copy Team, which edits all Caravel content for compliance with our stylistic standards. Members of the editorial staff report to section editors and, ultimately, to the Editor-in-Chief, who is a member of the Caravel's Administrative Board. The Editorial staff makes up the bulk of the Caravel’s membership, but many of its writers also hold other roles across the organization.

  • Digital Operations Staff: produces the Caravel's newsletters, including the general Compass World, which covers under-reported and breaking global news, and the thematic Compass Money, Compass Gender, and Compass Futures, which cover international trends. Multimedia contributors are housed within the digital operations staff and produce photojournalism and graphic design content for the organization's digital platforms. The digital operations staff also maintains the social media accounts of the Caravel and report to editors for each of the newsletters and, ultimately, to the Director of Digital Operations, who is a member of the Caravel's Administrative Board. In the Caravel, the Digital staff is the newest, fastest-growing, and most dynamic!

Executive Staff

The Executive Staff manages the business and executive functions of the Caravel and ensures its compliance with Georgetown University's policies and processes. The executive staff is broken up into teams dealing with Marketing, Business Development, Graphic Design, and Special Events. Members of the executive staff report to the Executive Director, who is a member of the Caravel's Administrative Board.
