Kazakhstan - Apr 17

An unofficial trade war has formed between Russia and Kazakhstan, traditionally close trading partners and both members of the Eurasian Economic Union. Some import restrictions in Kazakhstan have come about to protect domestic producers of steel and oil from a sharp devaluation of the ruble, while some food products have been restricted in a tit-for-tat manner. This recent trade dispute with Kazakhstan and the earlier re-export scandal, involving Belarus, is making any near term likelihood of strengthening ties within the Union, or a move to a single currency in the longer term, a fainter possibility.
